Meridian Press

A publishing house that prints slowly and rarely. The identity is built from its own catalogue system, so every book carries its index number on the cover.

Overview

A system before a mark

Meridian had two hundred titles and no way to show the relationship between them. We began with the catalogue rather than the logo, mapping every title to a number, a season and a format, then let that structure become the visible part of the brand.

The wordmark is deliberately quiet. It sits in the same size and weight as the catalogue number beside it, which means a spine, a poster and an invoice all read as one family without any of them being decorated.

Print first

Every layout was proofed on paper before it was drawn on screen. The grid holds at four sizes, from a pocket edition to a shop window, and the type never changes measure between them.
